Primark is coming to town
THE manager of High Wycombe's other shopping centre has officially confirmed budget clothing store Primark is coming to town.
But eager shoppers will have to wait until September to get their hands on its cut price bargains.
Bill Pollard, manager of the Chilterns, confirmed this week the large two storey unit, formerly occupied by M&S, would be replaced with a new Primark store, due to open at the end of September.
The store, which has entrances inside the Chilterns and off Church Street, has sat empty since M&S moved to the Eden shopping centre in March.
Mr Pollard admitted footfall at the centre had dropped by a third since the new centre's grand launch, but believed Primark's opening would be a great boost for the Chilterns and the town.
He said: "I think it will certainly help this side of town, that's without a doubt. They have a huge following and that you can gauge by the amount of phone calls we have had this week from customers."
"The footfall has slackened off," he added, "I think when you talk to the tenants and staff that are here, life is tough. But then I think if you look at the general climate nationally now, we're no different to anywhere else."
Mr Pollard said his letting agents were talking to "all sorts of people" about filling the empty Next unit and the soon-to-be empty Dorothy Perkins store, which is due to open a new branch inside Eden next Thursday.
But he said he could not confirm who would be moving into the Chilterns next.

This is good news. Let’s hope the new Primark store is a roaring success.
From what I hear it is likely to be selling things more in line with what the people of the town actually want to buy.

I have never been to a Primark but relatives have been to the one in Reading and say its a good shop with very reasonable prices.

Although choice is a good idea for all us shoppers I do also know how much some of the market traders have suffered since the 99p opened it's doors.

Great that Primark is coming to Wycombe, but what about Iceland which we once had in the town? Are they going to bring that back at all?
