Winner at maths
A BRIGHT young mathematician has scored in the top one per cent of his age group in a national competition.
Thirteen year old Van Magnan was part of a group of 11 pupils from Year 7 and 8 of Great Marlow School which won awards in the UK Junior Maths Challenge.
The youngster scored so highly that he was entered into the European stage of the contest, which he sat last month. However, the results have not yet been announced.
One other pupil, Shoham Vaichshkolnik, won the gold award, placing him in the top seven per cent of competitors. Four more won the silver award, and six pupils won the bronze award.
Maths teacher Anjali Marwaha said: "They did brilliantly."

Impressive. To me, a strong natural ability with maths is akin to witchcraft and alchemy, and should be applauded.
