Artist sells collection for charity

AN ARTIST has put his entire catalogue of work up for sale, with the proceeds going to the charity that helped him continue painting despite his poor eyesight.

Donald Ball, 92, from Little Missenden, has been sketching and painting since he was a child, but recently his eyesight had begun to hamper his work.

However, he received help from the Bucks Association for the Blind - and out of gratitude he decided to sell off his work and donate the money to the charity.

He said: "It's only because I don't need the money at the moment.

"Now I'm quite happy where I am so I thought it would be a good idea to donate the money to this charity."

Keira Bentley works for the Bucks Association for the Blind, and carries out house visits to partially sighted people.

She said: "We are absolutely thrilled and honoured because this is his life's work and he's chosen us to be his charity."

The group provides special lighting and support to help people live independent lives, as well as running clubs and other social activities.

Mr Ball's paintings and sketches are currently being exhibited at the Village Hall in Little Missenden The work has been on sale since 10am today, and so far has raised over £1,000.

The exhibition will continue until 4pm today, and will be held from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.
