RESIDENTS will be asked for their opinions on policing in a scheme that will see almost 900,000 households be given information leaflets.

A summary of policing in the Thames Valley is set to be delivered to homes next month.

People in Bucks will have a 12-page booklet containing information on the activities of police and the Thames Valley Police Authority during last year.

Christine Weston, chairman of Thames Valley Police Authority, said: "Posting them through the door gives us an opportunity to get into the homes of people throughout the region and show the public what policing in Thames Valley is about.

"It allows us to tell the public what we have been doing and ask them if they are happy with the way we have carried out our responsibilities.

"The public are our customers and we need to know from them what we are doing well, what we are doing badly and how they would like us to improve.

"I would urge people to read the summaries and decide whether we are doing a good job."

The policing summaries are a statutory requirement for the authority to produce.

To give your views contact the authority on 01865 846780 or visit www.tvpa.police.uk/feedback.htm.

Copies of the policing summaries can be downloaded by clicking the link below or calling 01865 846578.

and who is paying for all these booklets?

Ultimately we're paying, of course.

However, the article does say:
The policing summaries are a statutory requirement for the authority to produce.
so the marginal cost of adding a survey is probably quite small.

Another expensive exercise in Spin from the Labour government.

"The public are our customers

No we're not. We don't buy goods and services from the police based of having a choice. The service is provided to us by the government and paid for from our taxes. It is the Police Service and we are users (some more than others!) of that service.

They could save a load if they actually listened to the advice they have already been given.

Things we DO NOT want,

1 - Plastic police with no powers who cost almost as much as the real thing.
2 - The real police sneaking around in speed vans alienating the mostly law abiding and being paid on overtime rates (absolutely disgraceful)!
3 - Yet another 'community initiative' or 'interactive community forum' or another pathetic buzzword scheme.

Things we DO want,

1 - REAL police out there arresting the scum that cause trouble and a justice system that actually punishes them accordingly.

Thats it, simple really, but do you think they will listen. Of course not, its not what they want to hear so they will continue to waste OUR time and OUR money on this charade.

PCSO's may be plastic coppers but they get vital inteligence for 'real' coppers to deal then with. As civilians with no real powers they do the best they can within the current constraints of the law. Although not ideal, surely someone in a police uniform is better than nobody at all!

Vital intelligence, give me a break!!! Same old bull, PCSOs are laughed at and despised, sorry but that's the reality.

As for "someone in a Police uniform is better than nobody at all",clearly you infer we are paying alot of money for second rate!

The only reason we have plastic coppers instead of real ones is that they are cheaper and have less training so are quicker to employ and send out.

BUT it is not that we are filling a temporary shortfall with them. They are there so the authorities can claim to be putting more police out on 'the beat' ( yes, even ones with no powers).

The big problem with this is that the money that would have been spent on a smaller number of REAL police to help society, has, instead been wasted on a larger number of politically acceptable, powerless pcso's.

Sorry Smudger, I do not doubt for one minute your intentions may be good but unfortunately you are mistaken if you believe the rubbish they would have us believe.

What police?

If there were any about wouldn't they be stopping the red traffic light jumpers?

What about all the contraband booze, fags and fuel about???

And what about the helicopters at £3500 per HOUR!

Waste of time and money better spent on real police on the beat.
