Art exhibition kicks off Wycombe Museum's new season
5:00pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
WORKS of historic art will be on display alongside contemporary creations from upcoming artists at Wycombe Museum’s latest exhibition.
A Brush With Art shows off some of the museum’s prized masterpieces – including a portrait of the second Earl of Shelburne by Sir Joshua Reynolds – as well as the work of eight artistic newcomers who have all recently graduated from Buckinghamshire New University.
The exhibition – which kicks off tomorrow – also features a hands-on workshop for visitors inspired by the display to try their hands at art.
It is the first event in the Priory Avenue museum’s new Autumn/Winter season.
Cllr John Gibbs, Cabinet Member for Community at Wycombe District Council said: “The Wycombe Museum had a busy summer season, with the Wycombe Wanderers 125 anniversary exhibition and Eid celebrations being particularly popular additions to the calendar.
“This Autumn and Winter sees the museum hosting a full range of inspirational events which will prove popular with all ages of the community.
“A Brush with Art is a fantastic new exhibition. It really showcases the work of artists from the district, historic as well as modern. "On November 3 the museum will host a celebration of Diwali with music and dance, mehndi painting and craft activities.
“There’s certainly a lot going on at the museum this coming season, even a hands-on Art Club for Children starting on October 15. Perhaps one of the children will grow up to be another great local artist.
"Admission to the Wycombe Museum is free, so come along and share in this superb new season."
