A FLOOD-HIT community which saw a five-day pumping operation during January’s washout has called firefighters back this week to help rescue them for a second time.

Residents of Garnet Court in Marlow, which has a specially installed underground system to help deal with surface water, became worried again after rising water levels began creeping towards their homes following another sustained period of wet weather.

And after an initial inspection on Wednesday morning, fire crews returned to begin pumping water from the stricken cul-de-sac after its own drains and pumps became overloaded.

Fraser Pearson of Bucks Fire and Rescue said: “We had the first call at around 7.30am (Wednesday) and the situation was such that the water was rising above the kerb and towards the houses.

“A crew from High Wycombe attended and requested for a fire engine to begin pumping.”

He added firefighters have since revisited the road for more pumping, and that the situation will be closely monitored over the coming days.

Garnet Court was badly affected in the floods over new year, and with another sustained period of heavy rain, firefighters made the call to step in and save the community once again.

As reported in the MFP, Garnet Court residents and firefighters struck up a close friendship when the flooding first brought them together in early January.

And following Wednesday’s pumping operation, crews have returned to the cul-de-sac regularly to ensure water levels are under control.

Longridge Activity Centre in Marlow is also facing fresh flooding fears after having only just begun the clean up operation from the devastation which began over the festive period.
