TWO Bucks artists were praised by celebrities and dignitaries at a private viewing of their new sculpture show.

TV stars Rory Bremner and Colin Baker were among a crowd of around 150 last night who toured the trail of art in the gardens at Hatfield in Hertfordshire.

More than 80 pieces of work, made by some of the country’s top sculptors, were on display at the Great British Sculpture Show which officially opens to the public tomorrow.

The show has been curated by Diane Coates and Andrew Sinclair, who run the Sculpture School in Wendover.

The array of art ranges from a giant Peregrine Falcon, to a dinosaur ridden by a naked lady, to dancing skeletons, as well as a number of classical figurative sculptures.

Former Doctor Who actor and BFP columnist Colin Baker, who travelled to Hatfield from his home in Bucks to see the show, said: "This will be the stuff that will be remembered 200 years from now.

"What we do in our lives will be forgotten. But every single one of these sculptures will leave an enduring memory somewhere – they will last longer than we do. What human beings create defines humanity – not what we conquer."

Impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner, who rushed down from a matinee performance in London’s West End to open the private viewing, told assembled guests to ‘spread the word’ about the show and said: "This is a wonderful thing. Can I congratulate all of the artists on the fantastic work they have done."

The show will be on at Hatfield House until the end of September.

Sculptures will be on display from 10am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday during the exhibition at no extra charge beyond normal garden admission (www.hatfieldhouse.co.uk).
