Mums on the school run affected by the closure of Marlow Bridge say they are determined to “make the most of a bad situation” by getting together and walking to school.

Parents and schoolchildren heading to Bisham School have had to either take a huge detour along to A404 or walk across the bridge every day while it remains closed.

One mum, Paula Sims, said parents are “pulling together and showing Marlow what a great community spirit we have.”

She said: “We know it's a terrible accident what's happened and people are getting angry and frustrated but we've decided to make the most of a bad situation by putting on our trainers and putting foot to pavement.”

She added that her and other parents have used the opportunity to have a catch up and enjoy the scenery, while their children ride their scooters – something they would not normally do if they had driven.

She added: “We're not saying we would want to do this every morning but in the meantime why not make the most of it?

“We said good morning to many people who were having to dash across the bridge for work and we got lots of surprises and happy good mornings back.”

Ms Sims also praised Bisham School – which is in Church Road – for keeping parents informed about the closure and accommodating the children’s scooters.

The bridge – which is a main route for drivers through the town and has a three-tonne weight limit - has been closed since Saturday evening after a HGV smashed through width restrictions and got stuck.
