Night time dash aids primary pupils
1:53pm Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News By Luciana O'Shea
SLEEP was put aside as parents dashed around the streets of Marlow Bottom during the night to help Burford School raise £100,000.
Fundraising folks took part in an overnight trot around the area as part of a 40 hour fun run.
Pupils also took part, during daylight hours, as groups took it in turns, in shifts, to keep the event going.
Night-time runners did one hour stints.
Some run, some walked and some jogged and during the first hour 20 participants collectively travelled around 150 miles.
Professor Greg Whyte, an ex-Olympian, celebrity trainer and Burford School parent, also took part.
The event started at 9pm on Wednesday, October 10, and finished on Friday, October 12 at around lunch time.
Organisers hope to have raised £4,000 towards the project to create an improved school hall - to mark the 40th anniversary of Burford.
Event spokesman Rebecca Mallett said: "We are hoping to raise £100,000 to extend the school hall in the next academic year.
"The school was built then to accommodate 200 pupils but now has 420, so you can imagine how desperate we are for this expansion.
"This event could not have taken place without the tremendous support from the Burford community and the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy being part of the challenge."
Lines are open for donation until Friday, October 19. If you wish to sponsor a pupil visit www.burfordschool40thyear.org.uk.
