Blind man's pet killed in attack by Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Chalfont St Peter

A BLIND man's pet greyhound was mauled to death after being attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in a Chalfont St Peter residential street.

The pensioner's dog was set upon in Pennington Road shortly after midday on Wednesday and died as a result of the attack.

The man was unhurt during the incident but it has left other dog owners in the road afraid to take their pets out for walks.

Resident Sue Donnelly said: "It's absolutely frightening. If this dog comes back, are we going to be safe in this road? None of us feel safe taking our dogs for a walk now.

"We're absolutely shocked. We can't actually believe this has happened."

Thames Valley Police said the owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier had been reported to the RSPCA but no criminal proceedings will be brought against them.

However officers from the neighbourhood policing team stepped up foot patrols in Pennington Road in a bid to reassure residents.

Don't you just love staffie owners...they spend all their time telling anyone who will listen just how docile and loving the breed is and "nuffin to do with them pitbulls".

There is not a problem with the dogs themselves, it is the owners that are the problem. In the wrong hands a normally docile animal even a golden retriever can become a nasty piece of work. The trouble with Staffordshires is the fact they are so strong that the bad ones do serious damage. Hopefully the owner will be found, prosecuted and be banned from owning any animals.

I am sure there are plenty of good Staffies out there, but this one has been failed by its owners. The dog should be destroyed and the owners barred from owning dogs.

I hope they muzzle it and keep it on a lead in future.

Next time it attacks a dog, the owner will probably try to intervene and will also get bitten.

Because they'll have no further use for it, and might as well bury it with the dog.

I have had trouble with all kinds of different breeds of dogs, whilst walking my dog. Staffies have a bad press, and I have met many a lovable staffie. However, I do hate it when other dog owners assume it is ok to let the doggies meet. I don't know your dog, you don't know mine. My Dog is totally non aggressive, but untill dogs have met in controlled conditions, you just cannot predict what will happen. I always keep my dog under control, I wish these dog chavs would learn the responsability which goes with dog ownership. I now have set walks I use, where I know there are very few other dogs, to avoid trouble. My dog has doggie friends, who we meet up with, all of these dogs know that humans are the alpha beings in the pack.
