Gridlock reported on A404

LONG delays are being reported on the A404 southbound, with solid queues forming back up the carriageway up towards High Wycombe.

Clare Morris, 52, from Widmer End, says she set off in her car to meet friends in Reading just after 10am this morning, but has only just reached the M4 in the last 30 minutes.

According to traffic reports, the roundabout at junction 8/9 of the M4 has become very congested because of this weekend’s planned closure of the northbound A404(M) for resurfacing work.

This appears to be causing the queues on the A404, as well as delays on the M4.

Was still gridlocked at 15.00hrs but badly signposted from the maidenhead link road to M4-A404,all traffic was chaotic as having to return back through maidenhead,ok if you were on a bike as there is always a way through,traffic police didn't seem to know what they were doing and looked very lost in thought,absolute chaos,car drivers were blocking the lanes with bad positioning and some trying to cross lanes without success only adding to the blockage!!,the A404 was ok at 09.30am when i passed through,all i could think in my mind is a little un printable so i will say no more on that!!

Been there when this happened before, for the same reason. The only cure is to stop people leaving the M4.

The BBC Travel news website didn't have anything about this closure on it at all! There have been warnings on the road itself for weeks though.
