Princes Risborough town events to merge to keep them going

Risborough Festival Risborough Festival

TWO events in the Princes Risborough calendar have merged to ensure they both go ahead next year.

At last night's Princes Risborough Town Council meeting chairman of the town's Festival Committee, Richard Stevenson, addressed councillors.

For the first time this year a musical festival called RizFest was staged over the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

Mr Stevenson said although they had positive feedback not enough people came through the gates.

The cost of putting it on was £8,500 and they now have £3,000 left in their bank account.

The town festival, which ran for ten days in July ended up costing £13,500 to put on.

It attracted thousands of people and promotes organisations and clubs in the town. But it now has £6,000 left in its account.

He said: "RizFest doesn't have any money and nor does the festival to stage the events next year. But we are a determined lot- our committee."

At their AGM last week they agreed to merge and plan to have a town festival which incorporates more live music.

The committee is asking for a grant for next year, which will be discussed in the town council's budget meeting.

Mr Stevenson asked if they could stage the music event at Wades Park, which will be considered.

Chairman of PRTC Gary Hall thanked Mr Stevenson for the hard work he has put into the festival. He said: "What you have done for the town and for the community I can't thank you enough."

Sounds to me that people don't want a music festivel then. So why flog a dead horse. Same goes for the Risborough Festival, no money = no festival
Simples!

Save the money and spend it on putting the one way system back the way it was.

What a mean-spirited pair of individuals you are. I surely hope that nobody takes your particular views into account.
Awful.

RizFest cost £8,500 and has £3,000 left in the bank, town festival cost £13,500 and has £6,000 left. I make that they have £9,000 left in bank, yet they then say RizFest doesn't have any money nor does the festival to stage next year. Well I'm sorry but if you don't have the money, you don't have. Just like the rest of us.
If the FizFest and town festival can't cover their cost without grants from us tax payers then cancel the event. Many other festivals that can't cover their cost have cancelled.
Why should people worry about how to save money on food and heating while our town council is giving grants to organizations that just want to arrange parties.

The people that organize the Kop Hill weekend in September managed to cover their cost and give money to charity.
I know which event I would prefer.

This is madness. Clearly the people of Risborough DO NOT WANT a music festival. All it is are a few local amateur acts playing infront of their mates. Likewise, if the town doesn't want a festival- bin that too. The problem is these councillors committee members have too much time on their hands. Most of them are retired and get involved in all of this just to get them out of the house. They push on with these money losing
schemes to boost their own egos. If it was their money they were spending they wouldn't touch these pitiful events

you don't even know me so how can you make comments about me. One I am not old. The point I was making was as a council tax payer.
The town council don't have to give a grant for the Kop Hill event, but the council keep giving grants to the organizer of RizFest and the town festival.
Just to let you know I didn't go to the Kop Hill nor did any of my family.
But I know people who have not even put there heating on yet to save money but still have to pay their council tax to be wasted by the town council,
I've turned my heating down.
so again why should we pay our council tax just so the council can waste our money on grants just so people can party.
If RizFest and the town festival can't cover their cost without grants from the town council tax payers they should cancel till they can.
