THREE girls from Holmer Green School carried out a walk to raise money for a family friend who is fighting for his life in hospital.

Lucy Hobbs, Bethany Terry and Charlotte Hoing, all aged 12, completed a five mile walk around Holmer Green and Hazlemere on October 27, raising £330.90 for the Steven Ward Charity.

Lucy said: "We decided to do a walk to raise money because we all like walking and wanted to raise money to help Charlotte’s uncle Steven."

Steven Ward, who now lives in Malta with his wife Clare and two young children Dylan and Elliot, had a serious accident on September 1. He was placed in an induced coma while doctors removed a third of his skull to reduce the swelling on his brain.

Sadly, Steven contracted MRSA during his treatment.

Despite being helped by the hospital, he now has to walk with the help of a frame and his speech and hearing is still poor. Steven still needs major surgery to replace the missing part of his skull, but is receiving no sick pay or benefits.

A total of £5,830.90 has now been raised for the Steven Ward Charity.
