A FASHION show in Beaconsfield raised £7,000 for a cancer charity last week, with actress Wendy Craig making a special appearance. Beaconsfield Friends of Cancer Research staged the show at Davenies School, with involvement from several local boutiques and volunteer models ranging in age from 20 - 80.
THE second concert of Beaconsfield Concerts Season is on Saturday, November 24, featuring talented young cellist Yuki Ito and friends. He gave his first public concert in 1996 at the age of 7 and has gone on to win prizes and accolades all over Europe. The programme includes music by Brahms, Britten, Handel, Rachmaninov and Faure. Concert begins at 7.45pm at Beaconsfield High School. Membership for the whole season is £60 but non-members are welcome and day tickets, at £16, can be bought by calling 01494 678595.

GERRARDS CROSS Sailing Association meets at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday, with a talk by Dick Turnbull called ‘Adventures in the Ice’. Dick will describe his trip from Oban to Spitzbergen, including some hair-raising moments escaping from an ice pack, assisted by an ice breaker. From 8.15pm.
BEKONSCOT has launched a photography competition to mark its new weekend opening schedule in November and December. From tomorrow until December 16 the model village will be open at the weekend from 10am until 4.30pm, unlike previous years when the village was completely closed at the end of October. Staff say the village will be illuminated at dusk and "begging to be photographed". The competition, which Bekonscot hopes will boost visitor numbers, will run until December 16,with the prize a four-hour photography lesson from professional Mark Dearlove. Entry forms can be picked up from Bekonscot Ticket office at a price of £1 per competition entry.
CELEBRITY cook Mary Berry and MP Dominic Grieve will be special guests at Beaconsfield High School’s Christmas Fair this month. The event takes place on Saturday, November 17 from 10am - 2pm. Mary Berry will be selling and signing her cookery books for an hour from 11am, with Mr Grieve drawing the winning raffle tickets from 1.45pm. The fair will help raise funds for the redesign and refit of the Wattleton Road school’s physics labs.
HOLTSPUR FC is holding a live music fundraiser tomorrow to raise cash for their under 15s Easter tour. The band ‘Get Rhythm’ will play dancing music from the 40s, 50s and 60s at the Fitzwilliam Centre, next to St Mary’s Church, Old Beaconsfield, as well as an appearance by local singer Michelle Bewley.
