Daughter carries on work of popular village poppy seller
STALWART poppy seller Harry Merryweather died earlier this year - but his proud daughter has been continuing his fundraising work in Flackwell Heath.
Pamela Saunders, 65, of Fennels Way, has been walking the streets and knocking on doors, just as her father did every year for two decades.
War veteran Harry, who died in January aged 89, is thought to have raised more than £40,000 for the Poppy Appeal.
A cherry tree was recently planted in his memory on the small green next to the community centre.
Pamela told the Bucks Free Press: "I wanted to carry on because my dad did such a good job. We are going round doing what we can to cover every house in the village.
"People have been so kind because they remember daddy. He did it all on his own but I’ve got a team of helpers from the Legion."
Mrs Saunders has already raised £2,500 for Flackwell Heath’s British Legion branch by auctioning some of Harry’s old possessions.
She has also been invited to lay the wreath at the Remembrance Day service at the war memorial on Sunday.
