A EURO MP joined the campaign against HS2 when he visited one of the villages that will be affected by the line on Friday.

Green MEP Keith Taylor heard from Great Missenden residents when he came to the village last week after the project's compensation scheme was announced.

If given the go-ahead HS2 would pass very close by to Great Missenden and residents are concerned at the negative impact it could have on them.

Cllr Seb Berry, the village's representative with Chiltern District Council who hosted Mr Taylor, said: "The Green party nationally is opposed to HS2, so it was very good to welcome Keith to Great Missenden.

"Keith was particularly interested in the negative economic as well as environmental impacts of the scheme. He saw for himself the impact of the Government's pathetic compensation proposals.

"We also discussed the colossal amount of money being wasted on HS2 and how that would be better spent on genuinely green transport alternatives."

Meanwhile information sessions about the recently-announced compensation scheme will be taking place in the county - but Cllr Berry hit out at the location venues.

Roadshows will be held in Chalfont St Peter, Wendover and Stoke Mandeville, but Cllr Berry said it was 'astonishing' residents of vast areas of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty would not be represented.

He said: "The omission of virtually the entire AONB from this roadshow is unacceptable, given the very large number of affected properties and the scale of the threat to our very special local environment.

"HS2 Ltd still appear to be in a state of denial at the appalling implications of this scheme for people and businesses in the very heart of the AONB."

Events will be held at Chalfont St Peter Community Centre from 12-8pm on Monday November 26, Stoke Mandeville Stadium from 9am-5pm on Saturday December 15 and from 9am-5pm on Saturday January 12 at Wendover Memorial Hall.
