A BID to repair a piece of Marlow's heritage is on the right track, with £8,000 being raised towards a £30,000 goal so far.

Sir William Borlase's Grammar School is trying to restore the spire on its chapel, which was used as a First and Second World War memorial.

The £8,000 has been raised since September through gigs at the new Life of Riley Music Club, set up by Marlow FM's Paul Mansell and based at the chapel, a 'sponsor a shingle' appeal, donations through the schools website and a sale of Borlase's memorabilia. School spokesman Sue Dexter said: "The campaign to repair the spire is making great progress.

"A five figure grant had now been promised to the school for this project by a local foundation, which means that the overall project goal of £30,000 is now within sight."
