Bucks Free Press: Uni students head out to help the homeless Uni students head out to help the homeless

KIND hearted students will be heading out into High Wycombe tomorrow night to help the homeless by handing out donated items.

The third annual Christmas Hamper Collection by members of Buckinghamshire New University’s Students’ Union collected enough goodies to fill 44 shoeboxes to be handed out to the town’s homeless in a Christmas Eve giveaway.

Students and staff at the University, in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, teamed up with the Wycombe Homeless Connection to fill the shoeboxes with toiletries, books, scarves and hats for men and women to use during the winter.

Naomi Franco, Vice President of Student Involvement at Bucks Students’ Union, said: “It has been lovely to see so many students and staff donating gifts. All the hampers looked amazing and it was such a great feeling to drop all the presents off at the Wycombe Homeless Connection - I felt like Father Christmas. We were very pleased to contribute to such a worthy cause.”

Wycombe Homeless Connection is a registered charity based in High Wycombe that was established in 2007 to provide shelter and support to those finding themselves homeless during winter.

It operates between January and March and manages seven teams of volunteers at different venues in the town, including The Hub in Easton Street and several town centre churches.

Guests receive a hot evening meal, a bed for the night and a cooked breakfast in the morning, as well as receiving friendship and support. For more information on the charity, go to www.wyhoc.org.uk.
