A FAMILY left devastated after the deaths of two brothers and their aunt in a motorway accident has passed on their thanks to police and those offering support and condolences over the tragedy.

Adnan Habib, aged ten, and four-year-old Mohammed Arsalaan Habib both died in the crash on the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent on Tuesday, along with 32-year-old Bushra Tazarib. They had been on their way to a wedding in the Manchester area when their car overturned.

Mohammed Khaliel, founder of the Islamix organisation who has been in contact with the family, said: “It’s hit the heart of everybody decent in the country.

“The family want to thank all the well-wishers for their kind messages of sympathy.

“This is something that’s not only hit the family, but the wider family and community as well. The family is very well known.

“I don’t think the shock has settled in yet.”

“We really want to pass on our thoughts and our prayers. It’s such a tragic event but it shows you the goodness of the community, regardless of colour, creed or origin.

Mr Khaliel added that at the moment the Muslim community is saying special prayers for the community after its usual mosque prayers.

Hundreds visited Totteridge Mosque yesterday, where they passed on their condolences.

Mr Khaliel said the family also wished to thank the Staffordshire and Thames Valley Police forces for their work and support after the accident.

Superintendent Gilbert Houalla, of Thames Valley Police, said: “I was made aware of this tragic accident very soon after it took place. Wycombe Police and Thames Valley Roads Policing are working closely with the Staffordshire Police to make sure that the family are supported through this personal tragedy.

“My heart goes out to the family. They must be going through hell and I am really sorry about that.”
