A MONTH of free bus travel is on offer to jobseekers in Buckinghamshire to help them in their bid to find work.

Known as "Bus for Jobs", the scheme is a national collaboration between Job Centre Plus and Greener Journeys (an independent alliance between bus companies to encourage bus usage).

The initiative is being offered by Arriva, Carousel and First bus companies, as well as other services contracted by Transport for Buckinghamshire.

Buckinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport Peter Hardy said: ‘This a great New Year scheme enabling job seekers to travel to interviews and training without extra costs. I’m pleased that bus companies operating in Buckinghamshire are taking part in this scheme.’

The offer is free travel on the bus services for one month – from January 1 to 31 - for people who are 18 years old and have been unemployed for more than three months. Passengers will be required to hold a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card and the card must be produced when the journey is made.
