Donation transforms life of disabled youngster

THE parents of a little girl with special needs say their lives have been transformed thanks to a generous £8,000 donation from a Marlow organisation.

Maya Pudaruth, aged seven, was set for a brighter Christmas, after a lift was installed at her family home.

The youngster is a wheelchair user who has had complex physical, emotional and behavioural needs since birth. The money was raised by Marlow freemasons.

Maya’s mother, Clair, 39, a part-time office assistant, said: "For the first time in her life Maya is able to go to her bedroom without a guide. "It is an incredible emotional time for all of us. She is more independent. We are stronger as a family. And we are all incredibly relieved."

Maya's father Yogess, 48, a business manager, said: "This donation has made a world of difference to us all. Our lives have been transformed. "It will really help Maya’s confidence in the future. I can’t thank Marlow Freemasons enough." The family live in north Bucks.

Maya Pudaruth and Clifford Drake, who heads up the Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund and is also the deputy head of Marlow and Bucks Freemasons, said: "It would have taken years of fundraising by the family to be able to afford the lift. But Maya needed the kit now. The family contacted the freemasons and we were delighted to help."

"I am particularly proud that the Marlow members have been so helpful, given the way the economic downturn is hitting the area at the moment."
