THERE is extra motivation for anyone who has made a New Year's resolution to shed a few pounds – with a charity offering the chance for a year's free gym membership.

Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care is offering the winner of its weight loss challenge a whole 12 months for nothing at one of its partner leisure centres and six months for the runner up.

Anybody can apply to take part in the process, which will give participants the chance to train at four centres, with access to personal trainers and nutritionists.

Successful applicants will only be asked to raise £500 for the charity to be involved.

At the end, the person who loses the highest percentage of their BMI from each gym will win the year’s free gym membership and a makeover. There are also hotel getaway prizes for other contestants.

Called the IRGH Biggest Loser, the scheme has been extended, with some places still up for grabs.

Kerri Coote, Events Fundraiser at IRGH said: “We really do want to give as many people as possible the chance to change their lives for the better by accessing the free gym facilities and expert nutritional support that the programme offers.

“We have therefore decided to keep the application process open until 14 January. The programme will begin for all successful applicants on Monday 21 January.”

Four gyms are taking part in the scheme; Nuffield Health in Aylesbury, Core Strength in Halton, Wendover, Fitness First in High Wycombe and Fitness First in St Albans.
