Unwanted toys needed for dogs in training

HEARING dogs who are hard in training need time to relax too which is why a charity is appealing for unwanted dog toys.

Pooches at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, based in Saunderton, are trained to an exceptional level to alert deaf people to a range of sounds at home and in public.

During their 16 to 18 week training programme they also need "down time".

So the charity is on the lookout for unwanted dog toys which people may have received over the festive period.

Rob Panting, spokesman for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: "Our training team work tremendously hard in create amazing, life-changing hearing dogs but it’s equally important that all of our dogs have a chance to relax in between training sessions – and all dogs of course love a new toy to play with.

"In addition, we hold regular puppy classes, so the need for dogs to have something new to explore and enjoy is important.

"We would love to hear from dog owners who may have been given a few too many new toys over Christmas. Any level of support we get from the public really does make a difference - it will lead to helping a deaf person gain more independence and confidence through the placement of a hearing dog."
