Bucks Fire and Rescue Service has issued this advice in a burst pipe emergency:
•Turn off the water at the main supply and drain the system by running all the cold taps.
•Turn off the water heating system then drain it by running all the hot taps.
•Turn off the electricity.
•Call in the professionals to repair the damage.
To prevent a burst pipe from ruining your home this winter, HomeServe offers the following advice:
•Insulate your loft and the sides of your water tanks.
•Insulate all your pipes.
•Open the loft trap door on cold days to let heat in.
•If you're planning to be away for a while, ask a friend or relative to check on your home and make sure pipes haven't burst or frozen.
•Replace the washers on dripping taps because if they freeze they'll block the pipe.
•Make sure you know where your stop tap is and check regularly that you can turn it off easily in an emergency.
•In very cold weather, keep your heating on low throughout the day, or set to come on a couple of times a day, especially if you're going away.

Latest info from Transport for Bucks on gritting...
"Gritters in the north of the county are returning to base but gritting operations in the south have been slowed down by traffic volumes, mainly due to commuters leaving work early and the early school closures because of conditions.
"Weather scouts in the south of the county confirm the snow appears to be easing so hopefully this will allow the salt to be put down and the traffic to get rid of any lying snow in the next few hours.
"During gritting operations the drivers have the means to 'blast' problem areas with an additional amount of salt, but this uses up the loaded salt and a return to the depots may be necessary to reload. This is why sometimes the runs appear to take longer than normal.
"In addition to the gritter lorries our operatives have also been hard at work hand gritting town centres across the county for pedestrians.
Our next gritting run is still planned to start this evening between 2000hrs and 2200hrs."

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service has reminded people it responds to 999 calls where there is a hazard from flood water affecting the electricity supply or where vulnerable people are at risk, but it cannot fix burst pipes.
Community safety manager Chris Bailey said: “With an increasing demand for help during snowy and icy periods, it’s essential that residents only call us when there is a genuine risk to life.
“We strongly recommend residents know where to locate and how to isolate their water and electrical supplies so that we don’t divert valuable resources from our primary functions - fighting fires and responding to collisions and other life-threatening emergencies."

Latest from Transport for Bucks...
"Our teams will be out again gritting today. Snow is starting to accumulate on the hilly routes in South Bucks so our gritting run in the south of the county will commence at 1200 and in the north of the county will be going at 1300.
"This will assist in roads being prepared prior to the evening rush hour and ensure our gritters are not inhibited by being held up in traffic. District Councils have been asked to grit town centres as well as part of our devolved services agreement with them.
"Never assume, however, that a road has been salted. It is always better to travel a little further on a treated major road than try an untreated minor road. Advice is still to think before you make a journey and only travel when absolutely necessary. If you do need to make a journey, ensure your car is prepared for the weather and carry an emergency kit, including a shovel, torch, blanket, food and drink, and ensure your phone is fully charged."

Fraser Pearson from Bucks Fire and Rescue Service tells us: " One of our biggest concerns is how people keep warm – be careful with open fires and portable heaters.
"One big message we would like to get across is that it would be wonderful if people could take a little bit of time to check on elderly relatives, neighbours and friends.
"For example, if you offer to do the shopping for them, they don’t have to go out in this weather."

A reminder from county council leader Martin Tett on the advice the council and Department for Transport gives regarding snow and ice clearing...
The law on clearing snow and ice from public spaces
The Department for Transport has published guidance about clearing snow outside your property, pathways to your property or public spaces. The guidance said there is no law stopping you from doing this.
If an accident did happen, it's highly unlikely that you would be sued as long as you:
• are careful
• use common sense to make sure that you don't make the pavement or pathway clearly more dangerous than before
People using areas affected by snow and ice also have responsibility to be careful themselves.
If you are going to remove snow and ice, here are some tips:
- start as early as possible - it's much easier to clear fresh, loose snow compared to compacted ice that has been compressed by people walking on it
- don’t use hot water - this will melt the snow, but may replace it with black ice, increasing the risk of injury
- be a good neighbour - some people may be unable to clear snow and ice on paths from their property
- if shovelling snow, think where you are going to put it so that it doesn’t block people’s paths or drainage channels
- make a pathway down the middle of the area to be cleared first, so you have a clear surface to walk on
- spreading some salt on the area you have cleared will help stop ice forming - table salt or dishwasher salt will work, but avoid spreading on plants or grass as they may be damaged by it
- pay particular care and attention to steps and steep gradients
- use the sun to your advantage - removing the top layer of snow will allow the sun to melt any ice beneath; however you will need to cover any ice with salt to stop it refreezing overnightif there's no salt available, sand or ash are good alternatives

Nearly wet my self laughing at all those 4x4 drivers trying to drive.
Braking too hard and sliding, not using the gear box to slow down, no lights, indicators and all looking like they wanted someone to help them out.
Most were stay at home mummy's.
It is better than watching sport.

The Transport For Bucks interactive page shows some of the gritters, etc. Some are identified by the Rego numbers but others have nicknames like: Mitten, Snowdrop, Ice Breaker, Salty, Rosie Cheeks, Lambourgritter, Optimum Grit, etc. God to see that with snow ploughs they are finally taking the snow conditions seriously.

Surely that should be spelled:
a divorce with them is imminent
(And what’s your problem with capital letters?)
