Snow update: Schools closed and disruptions to public transport Snow update: Schools closed and disruptions to public transport

SCHOOLS are closed and there are disruptions to public transport this morning.

Scores of schools are shut across the county due to the adverse weather conditions – click here for a full list of closed or partially closed schools.

Arriva and Carousel Buses are having problems with icy roads, with buses unable to reach certain areas on their routes - including High Wycombe, Downley and Flackwell Heath - Click here for details.

Chiltern Railways is running a normal service but signal problems are causing delays to commuters. Click here for the latest.

Wycombe District Council has suspended all waste and recycling collections today, and all green waste collections have been suspended for the week.

The Met Office is currently not predicting any further snowfall today.

3 schools in Beaconsfield old town, all within yards of each other on the same road. 2 closed (1 accepting pupils for exams), and 1 open (sited at the bottom of a hill). All buses running to these are showing as ok. Side roads are accessible with care, main roads are clear. Appreciate some teachers/pupils have distances to travel, although commuters proved they could get to work this morning. So why are these 2 closed, Health & Safety? Over precious Head Masters? With this attitude they might as well all be home schooled.

The roads might be clear,but what about the pavements?
In Wycombe the side roads are passable but pavements resemble an icerink.
Perhaps if CC would be able to clear car and pedestrian access to schools than we would not have such a problem.

Many people have to travel to work, difference is that many of the private sector workers don't get paid if they don't go to work but teachers know they will still get paid..

Understand your point Kris S, but if the schools are all accessible via the same pavements (which they are) then why is 1 open,1 not and 1 only for exams. Perhaps Fair Say is onto something.. Closing schools certainly doesn't give the kids a 'can do' attitude.. I went to one of these schools years ago and we used to walk in when it was a lot deeper and icy. Sufficed to say that school is the one that is open!

Mr Totterdge Hill says...

Just a thought for the health and safety of letting the kids out early the other day (Friday) when the roads were at there worst and then one of them gets knocked down on Totteridge Hill. 4 RTA's on the hill within a 30 minute window when all the kids were about... then the roads were clear after 1530hrs.
