A SIKH organisation is hoping to open a new secondary school in Stoke Poges in time for the next school year.

Subject to planning permission, the Khalsa Secondary Academy will be situated in Hollybush Hill, on a site currently occupied by the offices of technology firm Pioneer UK.

Slough Sikh Education Trust already runs a primary school which was recently rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

A statement on the Trust’s website says: "Our aim is to create a high achieving, non-selective school in Slough, which will follow the principles and values of the Sikh faith.

"We intend to open the school in September 2013 with Year 7 only and to grow the school year on year, eventually including a 6th form with a full range of academic and vocational courses.

"We believe that a secondary school with our values and standards will prove popular with both parents and students of Slough and South Buckinghamshire, by offering a choice that these students do not presently have."

The academy school, given the go-ahead by the government last year, would take in pupils from all backgrounds, including non-Sikhs.

A public consultation is running until February 15, with a drop-in exhibition at Pioneer House, Hollybush Hill, on February 1 - 2 from 4 - 7pm.
