High Wycombe's mayor elect is named
10:45am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News By Simon Farr
COUNCILLOR Trevor Snaith was unanimously elected High Wycombe’s mayor elect last night.
The Leader of the Wycombe Liberal Democrats will wear the town’s mayoral chains after the traditional ‘weighing in’ ceremony on May 18.
In nominating Cllr Snaith, Wycombe District Council’s ward member for Ryemead, Cllr Ray Farmer joked: “Trevor has lived in Wycombe for 22 years and has adopted it as his home town...it’s too cold back in Newcastle, he’s now a southern softie.
“He’s the number one man for the position; he would be a first class first citizen of the town and a mayor people will remember.”
His Lib Dem colleague Cllr Paula Lee will be the deputy mayor, the town’s Charter Trustees ruled on Tuesday night.
Cllr Matt Knight hailed her courage in battling through a tough election as well as illness after the premature birth of her child in 2011.
In praising her work for children’s charities and dedication as a ward member for Micklefield, Cllr Knight said: “She’s a local girl through and through and she is devoted to the community.”
Cllrs Snaith and Lee were the only candidates put forward this year.
They will take over from incumbent Mayor Cllr Chauhdry Shafique and Deputy Mayor Cllr Sebert Graham at the Mayor Making ceremony.
