A KEEN allotment holder won an award for his work which has been providing him with fruit and vegetables over the year.

Zivan Levajac won the prize for the Best Kept Allotment 2012 from Hazlemere Parish Council.

He tends the allotment with his wife and took the prize for clearly using the allotment to provide food for their dinner table rather than as a showpiece.

This year's competition was judged by Councillor Karen Farrell and Councillor John Rhodes, who amongst other considerations were looking for allotments with the best blend of vegetables, flowers and fruit trees Hazlemere Parish Council has 50 allotments on two sites - 32 at Queensway and another 20 at The Dell, behind the Parish Council headquarters at Cedar Barn.

With food prices rocketing growing your own on allotments has become more popular than ever. The judges said the overall standard was very high.
