Volunteers urgently needed to keep day centre running in Holmer Green
12:10pm Saturday 2nd February 2013 in News By Rebecca Cain
A DAY care centre for the elderly is desperately seeking new volunteers as an organiser said the current volunteers are older than the people being looked after.
The Lantern Club in Holmer Green has been running for 23 years in the Village Centre.
It is open between 9.30am and 3pm during the week and 14 elderly people attend.
Chairman Marjory Mack said: "The volunteers are older than the people coming in to be looked after. "We need more volunteers- people who are caring with older people."
She said they can give as much time as they want to.
Mrs Mack said the elderly people who attend have mental and physical disabilities.
She said: "It gives their carers a bit or respite so they can go and get their hair done or have coffee with a friend.
"Normally they can't do that."
The club has a number of activities form exercises to music therapy to games and crafts.
There is also an urgent need for drivers to transport club members to and from their homes in a mini bus.
It would mean two hours of someone's time in the morning or afternoon.
There is also a vacancy for a Group Leader who is repsonses for organising all the activities, morning and afternoon. They would report to a Volunteer Management Committee and would be required to attend committee meetings.
If you think you can volunteer or help with driving or as group leader then contact Marjory Mack on 01494 815840 or email memack@live.co.uk.
