Blues keeper attacked by pitch invader

A PITCH invader who lunged at Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeper Jordan Archer marred Blues’ 1-0 win at Gillingham this evening.

In full glare of the watching Sky Sports cameras a young fan ran from the home end and jumped on Archer’s back as he placed the ball down for a goal kick.

A steward had to wrestle the youth to the ground after the incident, which happened towards the end of the game.

Gillingham manager Martin Allen said the fan’s actions were “absolutely crazy” and “not a true reflection of our football club”.

Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “He’ll be dealt with by Gillingham and the authorities. In my opinion what he did was wrong and he’s given the rest of the Gillingham fans a bad name. They’ll be as annoyed as anyone at him.

“The less I comment the better because I need to see it again.

“I’m not sure what we’re going to do as a club. I’ll sit down and speak to the relevant people at my club and see what they want to say. At the moment I can’t really comment any further on that.”

He added Archer was uninjured by the incident.

The attack was a shameful incident that showed hooliganism is still alive and well.
~
At the time of the incident there was a mere handful of security people visible in the accompanying video, hence the yobbo was able to get on the pitch and carry out the dastardly attack unchallenged.
~
With trouble flaring a short while ago when a game was called off due to bad weather and now this latest escapade is it any wonder so few people go over to the ground? I was going over there myself soon and would have written a blog on my experience but I'm having second thoughts now as I value my safety.

Dont be a fool, none of this would have been averted even if they had 100 police officers at the game ! There is always room for one idiot to try and spoil things for everyone else. He was a silly young kid who will be dealt with, the keeper is fine ( thankfully )

Still playing the drama queen, I see; while you're shrilly screaming, and gathering your skirts around your ankles, lest the great unwashed touch your lilywhite body, other, more reasonable, people are likely to recognise that the young idiot is unlikely to travel all the way from Gillingham, just to have a go at you. There has been violence, at some grounds, since Abraham played full-back for Jerusalem; in the 1950s, an Iver Heath player had his eye blacked, by a Stokenchurch supporter, in retaliation for a particularly bad foul perpetrated on a player.
Humans lose their temper, Ivor (it's the nature of the beast,) but I suggest you check on how many incidents there have been, involving Wycombe Wanderers supporters, before, yet again, running off at the mouth, and, yet again, making yourself look exceedingly foolish.

Archer should have booted him in the temple. Would have saved us all tax money as that little waste of space is clearly going to be living off benefits his whole worthless life.

Ivor, i suggest you re-consider your statement of not going over to the ground. The incident happened at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium and not at Adams Park.

Ivor, I've taken my children to watch the Wanderers from very early ages with absolutely no fear for their safety.
We are very lucky to have such a ‘friendly’ club locally and it’s such a shame that more of the football public in the town get behind the club.

Ivor,

I don't know whether you consistently write such drivel to be controversial or because you are an uninformed buffoon!
This incident happened at Priestfield and NOT Adams Park.

In this day and age when football crowds are already down,WWFc really doesn't need uneducated clots like yourself writing sensationalised rubbish.

Wycombe wanderers have an excellent reputation as a friendly, family orientated club, with the lowest rates of hooliganism of any club in the football league.

Ivor, perhaps if you do go along you could inform the club and let the players take aim at you from 12 yards in the pre match warm up !! Bet there would be very few misses. # tit

Wanderers need all the support they can get and here's you suggesting visitors to the ground will be unsafe. I suggest you do a little research into past unsavoury incidents at Adams Park. I think you'll find very few. The recent incident highlighted occurred at the ground of Gillingham F. C. Why should it be a reason for people avoiding Adams Park? In difficult circumstances the Supporters Trust, the manager and the players are doing a magnificent job. Ill informed negativity is neither helpful nor constructive.
