Council chief sorry for school closure website crash Council chief sorry for school closure website crash

COUNCIL chief Martin Tett has issued an ‘unreserved apology’ to parents after the school closures website crashed this morning.

Thousands of parents were left frustrated trying to view the webpage, after several centimetres of snow fell across Buckinghamshire overnight.

Councillor Tett told a Bucks County Council meeting this morning: “I think this is completely unacceptable and I have asked the chief executive to look into it as a matter of urgency....This is the second time it has been down.

“I'm extremely conscious that parents rely on the website. It can be extremely difficult for parents who maybe have commitments in the morning, who are working and have to make alternative arrangements and can lose income.

“I issue an unreserved apology to all parents who've been affected by this issue.”

The webpage is now working again - see related links.

Once again when you need it the most Bucks CC website goes down. This seems to happen every year for the last 3 winters. Why? I also think individual schools so have the correct information on their website and not just direct you to the main Bucks CC site, if the schools did this it would help with the amount of people trying to access the main Bucks CC site, also as parents we would have a backup site fir the information.

maybe it is because the person that switches it on in the morning couldn't get to work because of the snow

It seems MADNESS that so many schools shut anyhow because of the snow.

It seems as if schools would rather close than risk being sued by parents just in case their children fall down and hurt themselves.

But it means that a parent has to stay at home with the child/children and not be at work.

Why on earth should this continue to be this way?

The children aren’t getting educated and businesses lose money.

It just doesn’t make any sense.

Most schools have a website and most schools post on their website emergency closures. Our website carried the message that we were open by 6 this morning. How much earlier do you want to be informed?

The point is this time we are the "good guys" - we posted on our website early (as we always do) and we stayed open. But we do have to close at times and we get vilified for it yet we don't take the decision to close lightly. We are really aware of the problems it causes for our pupils and parents but still having weighed up the circumstances our decision is always wrong. Abuse on the forums for teachers and staff is not helpful or constructive.

I think Bucks parents need to take a rather large dose of the drug "Perspective" here.

BucksCC runs this as a free service, if you'd get off of your iPad backsides, call your school, or use some of that good old common sense you'd have known better.

Flaming Mr. Tett who's team probably runs a lot of websites, and had an unfortunate outage does nothing to help. Unfortunately computers fail, but most of the flamers here are epic fails for their vitriolic venomous behaviour.

Get a grip folks, it's just snow. Not Armageddon!

People got on in bad weather situations perfectly in the days before, Websites, Twitter, Mobile Phones, Ipads etc, and everything seemed to go so smoothly, but people just rely and expect on todays technology to be fool proof and perfect.
Nothing in the world is like that.

some schools didn't post their messages until 8.15am so your experience certainly is not the same as others
