Police offer tips to keep homes safe this half term
POLICE have urged residents to follow their advice to help prevent themselves becoming a burglary victim this half term.
Officers said last year burglaries increased over half term in Chiltern and South Bucks and have offered some crime prevention advice.
Area commander, Supt Steve Hockin, said: "During the half term period last year we had an increase in the number of burglaries and we are doing all that we can to ensure that this doesn’t happen this year.
"We will also have officers from the neighbourhood teams in the areas where the burglaries happened; conducting additional patrols and they will also be there to offer both reassurance and additional crime prevention advice.
"However, most burglars are opportunists and we want to make it as hard as possible for them to be able to offend."
Below are some crime prevention tips from police:
- Keep all windows on the ground floor shut at night and only open during the day if you are in the room which has the open window.
- Keep your back door locked and only open when you need to Do not leave keys in your doors or window locks.
- Remove all keys, handbags and purses/wallets from sight.
- Fit a burglar alarm if you can.
Anyone with any information about the burglaries from last year is urged to call 101 or contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
