Archbishop of Georgia charms Wycombe dignitaries
THE Archbishop of Georgia charmed Wycombe dignitaries during a successful visit to the town.
Malkhaz Songulashvili took part in a seminar with the Council for Christian Muslim Relations before enjoying lunch in the Mayor’s Parlour.
CCMR chair and High Wycombe Mayor Cllr Chauhdry Shafique hailed the visit and hopes to return the favour before his mayoral term ends.
He said: “It was a great coup to get him to High Wycombe as he’s a well-placed international figure, particularly in building inter-faith relations.
“He was impressed with the work the CCMR does and we discussed the work he does in his part of the world. We discussed learning from each other and forging further bonds between the two countries.
“He had a look round All Saints Church with the Rev Hugh Ellis before retiring to the parlour for lunch, we gave him a tour of the Wycombe District Council building and a brief history lesson of the mayor – he was impressed with the town and the way we do things.
“He also invited me over to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, so I hope to arrange a return visit before my time as mayor ends. It was a very successful visit.”
