Scannappeal provide latest equipment at Amersham
3:42pm Friday 15th February 2013 in News By Rebecca Cain
STAFF at Amersham Hospital are celebrating the arrival of state-of-the-art technology funded by Scannappeal to help with the rehabilitation of patients recovering from brain injuries, such as a stroke or tumour.
Scannappeal has been fundraising for the Brain Injury Unit Appeal at Amersham Hospital since 2011 and support from people in Bucks has meant that other equipment has also been purchased, including a gait retrainer and specialist occupational therapy equipment.
Debbie Begent, adult speech and language therapy service manager, said: "If a patient has weak muscles and very slurred or unintelligible speech we can trial an iPad with Predictable app which has a keyboard and speech synthesis that speaks what the patient has typed in."
The next event to raise funds for this project is a market day at the hospital, including a bake sale, on Thursday, March 7 from 10am to 2pm. For further information or to make a donation, visit www.scannappeal.org.uk or call 01494 734161.
