THE family of former Mayor Jim Campbell, credited with saving Marlow's regatta, gathered to see a new road named in his honour.

Mr Campbell was instrumental in setting up the town regatta after the traditional event moved in 2001 to Dorney Lake. He died in 2011.

Campbell Road is one of the new street names as part of the housing development by Great Marlow School.

Youngest daughter Anna Campbell, in her mid 20s, from London, said: "I was incredibly moved when I heard about the opening of Campbell Road.

"It is fantastic and very fitting that dad's hard work and commitment to Marlow has been and will continue to be recognised."

Sarah Campbell, in her 40s, from Marlow, said: "This is a truly deserved honour and the perfect tribute to dad. He would be extremely touched and moved to know that his legacy will live on in Marlow."

Eldest son Nick Campbell, in his 40s, from Maidenhead, said: "Campbell Road is a physical reminder that every time we pass it, it will remind us of Dad/Grandad and what a great man he was."

Youngest son Chris Campbell, in his 40s, from Maidenhead, agreed it was fitting and a great honour.

Mayor Jocelyn Towns and Deputy Mayor Suzanne Brown also attended.

Cllr Towns said: "We cracked open a bottle of bubbly to mark the occasion, in very miserable, but truly Scottish weather. Jim was a great man and I am glad we have been able to have a road named after him, he loved the Town and did an enormous amount for it."
