WORK is being carried out over the half term break to ensure the council's school closures website does not crash again if and when more snow arrives.

Angry parents contacted the BFP and County Hall after they could not log on to find out if their child's school was shut during the latest snowy spell.

The site went down on February 11 – prompting an apology from Buckinghamshire County Council Leader Martin Tett.

He pledged an investigation after a similar crash happened last month – again when snow fell.

In a statement, the council said: “We experienced high volumes of traffic on the Buckinghamshire County Council website on Monday morning which did put pressure on the service but due to the measures implemented following the problems on 21 January we were able to minimise the service impact to the website.

“However, a secondary technical fault caused access to the schools closure web page to be intermittent.

“BCC used social media to help people access the schools closure page directly. Further technical work is planned during half term to address the root cause.”

Simple solution.....Keep the schools open. This is all a cop-out by the "Health & Safety" brigade.. Other countries must be laughing at us, to shut a school when a few flakes of snow should fall.

Other countries do laugh at us, end of.

Anybody read about northern russia where the temperature reached -71, and the schools did shut, only because the temperature was over the limit of -51.

Mr Tett is obviously rushing around at the moment making himself look efficient because he wants to be voted back in in May.

Here, here daemonite. In 11 years I never had a day off for snow, strikes or any other reason at all. And walked to school! Kids these days don't know they are born.

The people who walked to school however much snow fell only had horse and carts to dodge on the way.... Hardly a fair comparison ;)

Same old comments about "when I was at school" - boring. Times change, and what was applicable 30 years ago doesn't work now. More traffic, people working further from home, many parents working and so unable to collect children from school if school has to close early - so a duty of care on how to get young children home arises. Whilst it was bad that the school closures part of the Bucks website went down some parents I have asked as to why they didn't check their own school website said that they never thought of it! So are we just so entrenched in someone telling us information rather than seeking it out?

i dont care if other countries laugh at us, we are always laughing at them so it works both ways, the thing is other countries get months and months of snow whereas we dont so why would we spend money on chains for our tyres to use them once a year? and likewise millions on snowploughs etc. it would be a waste of taxpayers money
