HMV High Wycombe to close HMV High Wycombe to close

HMV High Wycombe will close in the next four to six weeks, the music chain’s administrators have confirmed.

Deloitte announced 37 further HMV stores – including the one in the Eden shopping centre – will be closed, weeks after 66 stores around the country were earmarked for the chop.

Staff from the Wycombe store tweeted today: “It saddens us to announce that we are closing down.

“We would just like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers, old and new, for all support that has been given and we will greatly miss the conversations we have shared with all.

“We will continue to trade until further notice and will of course keep all customers informed and up-to date. Once again, thank you for your continued support #SaveHMV.”

Staff later added they felt for the Eden shopping centre as it will have “more empty stores than occupied ones at this rate”.

Disappointed Wycombe shoppers took to the social media site to bemoan the loss and to offer their support to the store’s staff.

Louise N tweeted: “Gutted for HMV High Wycombe staff - really going to miss the people and the store! Where will I browse random DVDs now?! Good luck guys!”

David Crosby tweeted: “So sad. Good luck to all your staff that will be losing their jobs. Where to buy DVD's when you're gone.”

there must be something wrong with the management of eden wih all the store closures. I appreciate companies go bankrupt bu what about all the stores not gone bankrupt which have abandoned Eden. Surely they should be trying to keep stores in eden, as more stores should lead to a higher footfall should lead to more stores.

There goes the only reason for me ever going into Eden. Perhaps Waterstones, but I don't go there so often now because it is poor compared to the old shop they had in White Hart Street.

I know it is at least partly down to the economy, but Wycombe is absolutely dire for shopping.Women's clothes/shoes, mobile phones, overpriced coffee, pound shops, charity shops, fast food and little else.

Eden is an appallingly bad shopping centre that's the problem. It was appallingly bad when it was opened. Why would you open a substandard shopping centre when other towns in the area have existing centres which beat it out of sight? What a shameful waste of money. Most shops in Eden sell things which people buy with their disposable income. Very few of the shops sell the necessities of life so when disposable incomes reduce so too do the shops' customer numbers and the amounts spent.

They closed because of lack of demand.

Local independent traders could never afford the rents charged by large shopping centres such as Eden, or more importantly any comparable development anywhere in the UK. But then you know that and are just being deliberately contrary.

Otherwise I'd have to assume that you lack a basic knowledge of the rules of supply and demand economics.

I very rarely use the town centre, let alone Eden, to shop since I do it mostly online. It's not that I would not use these shops but I'm afraid I don't have a bottomless pit of money so have to be a little cost concious when making a purchase.
We've had local shops before in the town, a butcher near where the new hotel is for instance, and all eventually shut - most likely because of the advent of Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys.
