THE M40 has been reopened at Handy Cross after an incident earlier today in which a man made his way onto the wrong side of a motorway bridge.
Police received a call at 1.55pm to reports that a man was on the wrong side of the barriers on the bridge over the M40 towards Cressex Road, High Wycombe.
Both lanes of the motorway were closed from junction 4B to junction 3 and reopened at around 7.30pm, although traffic is still reportedly moving slowly.
Motorists were diverted during the lane closures, causing major congestion in the town and surrounding areas.
A man has been detained by officers on suspicion of causing a danger to road users and is currently in police custody.
