Epilepsy Society to open new research centre

A NEW £3.4million research centre is being officially opened at the Chalfont St Peter-based Epilepsy Society tomorrow.

The state of the art building, at the charity's Chesham Lane base, will be the most advanced epilepsy research centre in the whole of Europe when it opens.

Epilepsy affects one in every 100 people and it's hoped the new centre will translate research into clinical practice.

Amanda Cleaver, Epilepsy Society’s communications manager, said: "There are more than half a million people in the UK with epilepsy, so research is vital, especially for those whose seizures are yet to be controlled."

Chief Executive Graham Faulkner said: "We are very proud of our new building and excited by the research that will be carried out there. To celebrate its opening we are offering a free tour to anyone wanting to learn more about our research."

Tours will be held on Saturday March 2 and people are invited to turn up anytime between 2.30-4.30pm. More information is available by calling 01494 601300.

Fantastic that a new research centre has opened, what a fantastic opportunity hey :)
It's such a great shame that residents who had lived there from the age of 16 have been turfed out of their home notes than 50 years later and placed in inadequate flats etc without the care package they once received!! They were also removed from what they considered to be their families as the centre was all they have ever known :(((
Maybe these issues should have been addressed prior to a new research centre being built!!! I wonder whether the centre for living skills is still happening?? Hmmmm priorities aren't there anymore however the greed still remains .....

Apologies for sounding negative.
The NSE are doing a phenomenal job they truly are however ....
Why where so many of their clients turfed out of their living accommodation there when all they have ever known was the centre?
It's a shame ..... I'd quite happily help as much as I can with less able people however my hands are currently tied with my own daily battles .... I am sure you will read about these at a later date.
It always appears that priorities are the wrong ones, I know not everyone can be kept happy at all times however imagine a severely disabled person who has lived within a centre such as the NSE and after 60 years of living there and not knowing anything else to be then told they are going to be homeless??
One ex client which I know of was turfed out after spending all of his adult years there and he is now in his 60s with sever learning difficulties. He was removed from who he considered to be his family and then given a top floor flat to love in with no adequate care package put in place .... Truly upsetting ... Was there ever a risk assument done for this poor lonely gentleman? I highly doubt it .... Best part is, is that he is not the only case.
So although I am pleased that the NSE have done a brilliant job in securing a new research facility ... Please don't forget why you went into this CARE sector and remember these people. Do not put profit first and abuse the vulnerable ehmm maybe abuse was the wrong word let me rephrase ... Please try not take advantage of vulnerable people, they have enough to deal with on a daily basis, if they are aware ....
