A NEW £3.4million research centre is being officially opened at the Chalfont St Peter-based Epilepsy Society tomorrow.

The state of the art building, at the charity's Chesham Lane base, will be the most advanced epilepsy research centre in the whole of Europe when it opens.

Epilepsy affects one in every 100 people and it's hoped the new centre will translate research into clinical practice.

Amanda Cleaver, Epilepsy Society’s communications manager, said: "There are more than half a million people in the UK with epilepsy, so research is vital, especially for those whose seizures are yet to be controlled."

Chief Executive Graham Faulkner said: "We are very proud of our new building and excited by the research that will be carried out there. To celebrate its opening we are offering a free tour to anyone wanting to learn more about our research."

Tours will be held on Saturday March 2 and people are invited to turn up anytime between 2.30-4.30pm. More information is available by calling 01494 601300.
