Secondary school places offered to pupils today

PUPILS will find out today if they will go to their first choice of secondary school in September.

At 2pm parents who applied online can log onto a Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) portal to see their child’s offer of a secondary school place. They will also receive an email.

Letters are also being sent out today, expected to arrive tomorrow.

These results are usually released after lunch and parents can accept or decline the offer.

They can also place their child’s name on the waiting list for a school where the county has said a place is not available.

BCC said it is a busy time for the admissions team who have been working hard over the past few weeks.

As the system is selective it is a complex process.

Pupils select their choice in October and November last year with the option of selecting 11 plus schools and upper schools.

If pupils qualify for a grammar school or academy they go to their first choice of that type, but if they don’t qualify BCC have to work down the list of choices.

If schools are oversubscribed BCC then work to the criteria of that school, which can vary. It could be that a child with a sibling in the school will get priority over one who doesn’t.

Parents can appeal against the allocated place which is given to their child today.

Hate to think how much money is wasted on the archaic two tier schooling system
