Council chief: We'll take HS2 fight to Europe
7:30am Thursday 7th March 2013 in News By Andy Carswell
Cllr Martin Tett
COUNTY council leader Martin Tett said this week he's prepared to take the fight against HS2 all the way to the European Court.
Cllr Tett is also chairman of the 51m protest group, which is comprised of members of each local authority the route of the line is set to cut through.
He said at an HS2 rally in Aylesbury on Tuesday campaigners are already preparing themselves for an appeal should Judicial Reviews into the project's plans not find in their favour.
And he vowed: "We will fight this all the way, if necessary, to the European Court. This campaign certainly has a long way to go.
"We are a strong unit, a more purposeful unit, than we were two years ago."
Cllr Tett also took a swipe at how long it was taking for the judgement of five Judicial Reviews into the case to be announced at the High Court.
He said: "It's rather strange, if not bizarre, we are in March and a Judicial Review held in December - when they told us the results would be known no later than the end of January - still has no outcome."

I suggest you and your fellow cronies start having some jumble sales, coffee mornings to pay for it, if you are going to do that.
Have you seen the state of the county's roads at the moment Tett? Its just a great pity you are not enthusiastic enough to put money into what we pay for and get these roads done.
You are certainly not getting my vote this May, you have failed as far as im concerned, for the simple reasons you are not getting the job done that you are paid, and we pay you for.

Nice that WE GET SCREWED with the legal bill eh?
If we get stuck paying for it we should vote you out…for violating our HR's!
How very nice of you to not stand by when the High Heavens Stench plant was being voted for to protect the locals...
I think Mr. Tett that you are a hypocrite, I agree with 6blr, why are you fighting to protect your constituents in the north of the county and sticking two fingers up at the people of South Bucks whose lives will be blighted by the Waste Transfer Station at Booker.

It's money will spent in my opinion.
More than that, the Council have a DUTY to protect the people affected by this blight.

Clearly you didn't read the Conservative 2010 General Election Manifesto, which carried a clear commitment to High Speed Rail and HS2 was already in the public domain at the time of the last election.
All mainstream parties are in favour of High Speed Rail as a central feature of future transport policy - even UKIP, although they have opportunistically (for naked electoral advantage?) chosen to oppose the route of HS2 - conveniently they don't say where they would put a NEW high speed rail line?
If the UK can't afford HS2, it certainly can't afford CrossRail, currently consuming £2bn of taxpayer per annum funding for its construction - the same pro rata annual amount allocated to HS2 for its 17 year construction cycle or the £37bn package of upgrades announced for the existing network during the 2014-19, 5 year control period.
Naysayers commenting here (some redsident in the Chilterns, trying to whip up opposition because phase 1 impacts on their localities) are keen to say what they don't want but remain silent on what alternative transport strategies they would offer.
DOING NOTHING ISN'T AN OPTION!!!
