Independent councillors to announce intention to stand at county elections

County Hall County Hall

SIX independent councillors will jointly announce their intention to stand in the Buckinghamshire County Council election at the Council's offices in Aylesbury today.

Peter Cooper, Chris Richards, Darren Hayday, Mark Bale, Alan Turner and Rikki Akhter Hussein promise to serve the interests of local people and not those of any political party.

Each candidate is an experienced community representative and either current or former elected members of Buckinghamshire’s District Councils.

Mr Cooper, who has always stood independently and has won at the last four elections, said: “We have the right experience. People are becoming fed up with the way that the political parties work.”

The local council elections will take place on May 2.

It's funny how many of these people were staunch supporters of political parties who only became critical of those same parties after they failed to get their support. Motivated more by seeking revenge and retribution than any sense of doing good.

Sorry I must disagree with you. Personally I was a former member of the Conservative Party and I became disillusioned with both their National and Local policies and in particular the straw that broke the camel’s back with myself was the issue of the 'Booker Stadium' and the lack of support that I received from the local party as many senior individuals were in favour of the project.

I decided not to stand in the WDC elections and also I returned my membership card to the party.

This was not the same party that I joined over 10yrs ago and I believe that they have lost their way and are not serving in the best interests if the 'people' but rather looking out for themselves, etc

I would rather stand as a candidate as an independent rather than be told what to say at the doorsteps or to be told 'how to vote'.

I have lived in and around Wycombe all of my live and I think that I'm entitled to give my opinions whether I'm in or out of local government.

The only difference between me and a number of sitting Cllrs or others that are looking to enter politics is that I choose to use my real name and not hide behind a pseudonym.
I’ve written on this forum for many years and in the last year or so I’ve chosen to use my own name when posting. (well before I decided if or when to stand again)

The more the merrier, the main parties will be forced to say how their parties benefit the community. No one is truly independent in thought though, we all copy from others.
