Lollipop lady's fury at dog mess in Marlow street

A FURIOUS lollipop lady has lambasted dog owners who are letting their pets defecate on the street and not clearing it up.

Hundreds of children making their way to school along Newtown Road, where Janet Risbridger patrols, are walking through mess, she said.

The Marlow resident of 31 years, a dog owner herself, has blasted irresponsible pooch walkers.

She said: "You have to go right through the mess, it's that bad and every morning there's new mess there.

"It's absolutely disgraceful that these people have dogs and don't clear up.

"All the little kids that go through it. It's Great Marlow pupils who end up treading in it and taking it into the school. It's early in the morning, you can imagine how many children are walking up to the school there. It's stepped in, covered across the pavement.

"You have to walk with your eyes pinned to the pavement or you're in it."

Janet, 60, who has been a lollipop lady for 16 years, said: "I've been ringing up the council about if for about 4 years. There are tiny little signs saying £1000 fine but I had to look for them. "I'm a dog owner and dog lover I don't want people thinking I'm anti dog I love them."

She has also noticed other roads around the town such as Spring Gardens, where there is a problem with dog mess.

Responding to the crossing patrol person's concerns, Wycombe District Council said: "We are aware of the problem, our dog warden went to look on site in November. We are continuing to investigate. We have had over 100 complaints about dog fouling across the district in a year despite the fact that there are over 200 dog waste bins around the district.

"It's the responsibility of dog owners to pick up after their pets. This is probably down to one or two inconsiderate dog owners, it's a shame their lack of consideration has an effect on so many other people."

This a universal problem. It's disgusting and I blame people who walk their dogs after dark and think they can get away without clearing up. I frequently come across fouling which appears overnight.

I'm more worried about the increasing number of human faeces that are appearing on our high streets.

You should try walking along dog turd alley that goes past the car park in West Street.

I live on a common where even some of the people who live there consider it's ok to let their dogs deposit. I own a dog and constantly have bags with me to clear it up. Why can't everybody do that?
