New BMX Track for Wycombe

New BMX Track for Wycombe New BMX Track for Wycombe

Work has begun on a new BMX and mountain bike course in High Wycombe.

The ‘Skills and Thrills’ course in King’s Wood will provide ramps and jumps for off-road cyclists and organisers are hopeful the work will be completed by late March.

Chepping Wycombe Parish Council chairman Jeff Herschel confirmed that the project, funded by a £10,000 grant from the Local Community Partnership, is well underway.

He said: “I’m very excited the project is progressing. It’s going to be phenomenal.

“It’s another great resource for King's Wood after completion of the bridleway last year. King's Wood is big enough to cater for walkers, wildlife and cyclists so I’m really happy we could provide this extra facility.”

The work is being carried out with help from the Community Payback Scheme, which orders offenders to complete mandatory unpaid work to benefit their communities.

The King’s Wood site replaces plans to build the course in Oak Wood, Flackwell Heath, after the proposed land purchase fell through.

The construction follows the demolition of the skate park in Flackwell Heath’s recreation ground, which began last week despite a local campaign to save the popular play area.

Chepping Wycombe Parish Council said the ramps in the park were located too near to residents, but Mr Herschel said that there will be no such problems with the King’s Wood site, which is hundreds of metres from any houses.

That will be really handy for the kids of Flackwell Heath eh! but at least the Parish Council can say they have provided a new BMX facility even though it is miles away from Flackwell Heath and hardly safe for the kids to travel to on their bikes.

But at least the kids from Totteridge, Terriers, Micklefield, Hazlemere and Tylers Green won't have to travel over to Flackwell Heath!

Mutley, you miss the point. The kids in FH had a facility before the Parish Council showed it's yellow streak and capitulated to a village newbie who threatened them with a barrister.

Interesting it is being built by people on community service. Built by criminals, for criminals.

This is fantastic news and something really positive. It could become a great leisure facility in what is a beautiful woodland.

It is a shame that Flackwell has lost it's facilities but that's politics: you'd all be moaning if the council spent £100,000 on lawyers fighting to save a facility used by 30 youths! and those youths are actually criminals according to...

MarmiteXO. Where do i start!!!?
Youth on CP are repaying a debt, they do good work and don't need more grief, they need encouragement.

And then your final comment! My word... You think all mountainbike & bmx riders are criminals?
Would you keep your cynical blinkered narrow-minded WRONG prejudiced thoughts to yourself please. *sheesh*.

This will be an exciting leisure destination and something the Wycombe AREA has been crying out for. Well done Chepping Wycombe Parish Council, i look forward to seeing the progress.

The complainants who threatened the Parish council with legal action and forced the removal of the small skate-park in Flackwell Heath could have at least agreed to the facility remaining until a replacement was provided.

As it is some of the kids are now resorting to playing on the old Railko site in Loudwater.

THIS SITE IS CONTAMINATED WITH ASBESTOS. PLEASE PARENTS WARN YOUR KIDS NOT TO PLAY THERE TO AVOID HEALTH PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE.

The new BMX facility at Kings Wood is indeed good news for the kids in that area but is not practical for the kids of Flackwell Heath. They would have to negotiate the dreadful death-trap called the A40 to get there on their bikes.

Good on you Wil for tackling Marmite on his prejudiced views of the children.
There were enough of those comments , and worse, last year when the removal of the skate-park in FH was first proposed.

This subject seems to bring out nasty, vile comments from the impotent, the infertile and those who think their kids are better than everyone else's.

They don't help to solve any problems and say more about the people who write them than it does about the kids.

A lot of BMX kids will have to ride up **** Lane, this is a narrow dangerious road. Will this track attract Motorbikes ?.... and a £10,000 grant in these times of austerity could probably be spent much more wisely. and spoiling a wood which has stood since time !!! so is this where all our Council tax goes ??????????

s/Penn etc. 2. No more than the woods always has. 3. Possibly, but this was the decision. Make the best it. 4. Replace "spoiling" with 'enhancing & encouraging use of'. 5. No.

Hi Marsbarmad
It is really good to hear from one of the youngsters who will be using the new BMX facility.

I am genuinely pleased for you and all the other kids who live close enough to use the new BMX track.

I am only commenting on this news because the kids of Flackwell Heath have just had their small skate-park destroyed because of complaints from "old oafs".

We are not all against you and I wish you well and hope you enjoy many happy hours on the BMX track with your friends.

frackellgirl: Your heart might be in the right place, but your head really is not. Flackwell Heath just doesn't have the spare space to support a decent-sized BMX or skate park for the local kids. I'm sure it's just as frustrating for them as it is for you, but the existing "facilities" were just horrible.

The only possible way to provide new facilities in F/H is going to be to identify landowners for some of the undeveloped land (alongside Sheepridge, or parallel to Chapman Lane, or between the Green Dragon field and Blind Lane for example) and see if the council can either lease or buy some of that to build a new facility. The recreation ground just isn't the right place.
