PLANS for road changes in Gerrards Cross have come under fire from the Parish Council after an exhibition on the options by Bucks County Council.

County Council representatives gave a presentation and met with around 400 residents on Feb 19 and 23 to discuss the possible changes to signalling on Packhorse Road.

But Parish Councillors were unhappy at how BCC publicised the meeting, as well as the time spent on discussing each option.

A spokesman said: "It was a good a turnout and might well have been higher if BCC’s press release had been issued earlier.

“It was also unfortunate that the dates chosen coincided with half-term when many families take the chance to visit warmer climes.”

The consultation on changing the traffic lighting at the junctions by Tesco and Ethorpe Close was launched after concern from local residents about traffic flow.

But BCC staff focussed half of the display on option one, which is the current layout and requires no change.

“As 90 per cent of residents polled had already expressed concern over this layout and live with it on a daily basis, this was an interesting approach from the consultants retained by BCC,” a spokesman said.

“Deciding on an option with the information available was very difficult, as was understanding all the potential solutions or their implications.”

Parish councillors felt BCC could have used a PowerPoint presentation to make the information easier to understand, and to help residents make an informed choice.

Nevertheless, councillors thanked the exhibitors for their time and will meet with them again after the consultation period ends on April 8.

Gerrards Cross Parish Council are also asking residents to let them know through their website, www.gerrardscross.gov.uk what they thought of the presentation and the available options.

The consultation can be completed online through bucksconsultation.buckscc.gov.uk until April 8.
