A CYCLING enthusiast has swapped London for the Bucks countryside to open up a new bike shop in Wooburn Green.

Dave Brown from Pinner ran a shop in Richmond for seven years before friend and professional cyclist Tony Gibb from the village told him of the burgeoning cycling scene in Bucks.

And deciding getting on his bike, Dave decamped to Wooburn Green to launch ‘Pedalling Power’, which had its grand opening on May 4.

He said: "I was a little fed up of London to be honest, and when I heard about the number of cyclists and cycling clubs here I decided to give it a go.

"I have to say it’s 100% nicer round here. There’s a totally different atmosphere and the customers have been lovely. It was definitely worth making the change.

"I realised straight away how lovely the area is and that it’s a beautiful place to ride, although some customers do complain to me about the state of the roads round here!"

Pedalling Power caters mainly for high quality road and mountain bikes for serious cyclists, though Dave says starter bikes and equipment can be ordered for those new to the sport.

After opening his doors less than two weeks ago, Dave said business has started strongly, with plenty of positive comments from customers who have been waiting for a local shop like his.

"It’s been great so far," he said. "There seems to be a real call for the business from people who don’t want to travel further to get what they need.

"Though we mainly aim at the enthusiast cyclist, I will see how the business evolves and respond to what people tell me they want. It’s what local shops should be about."
