HAIRDRESSERS in Flackwell Heath are helping customers suffering from cancer by staying on the cutting edge of hair technology.

Long-established salon Louvains is planning to hold consultations for those suffering with cancer or alopecia for advice on wigs and products to help with the hair loss caused by treatment.

Recent addition to the team Ann-Marie Wingfield has spent 21 years in Australia with cancer patients fitting wigs, styling them and offering a tailored patient package.

She then pursued her passion after arriving in the UK by completing a training course with ‘My New Hair’, a charity founded by Trevor Sorbie MBE.

And Anne-Marie and colleague Julie Bishop showed their solidarity by walking the 10 mile ‘Pink Ribbon Walk’ at Blenheim Palace last month for Breast Cancer Care.

Julie said: "We are very knowledgeable on how hair grows and what it needs to look its best, but as you can imagine, the thought of losing your hair is very distressing, especially for ladies.

"Over the past 25 years we have experienced a lot of our clients beginning treatment for cancer and they have come to us for advice. "It is very sad as cancer seems to be around us more and more."

Both hairdressers have had close friends and family who have suffered from the disease, and now hope to get more involved in helping those affected.

Louvains are planning to hold meetings and private appointments for patients within the salon to have consultation with Ann-Marie.
