A MARLOW tennis coach and friend of Andy Murray has backed him for even more success after his Wimbledon triumph and says he has already begun inspiring new players.

Paul Delgado, who lives in the town, has lauded Murray after his sensational victory last weekend.

Mr Delgado, who now coaches at Great Marlow School, said: "It was very touching for me to see him win, there's no one who deserves to win as much as he has.

"He's worked so hard throughout his career. I'm very proud and it's a great message for juniors that you get your rewards from hard work.

"I really do think that for all the kids I've been teaching Andy's success has really caught the imagination. He's the role model that they've not had.

"I think Murray wining will be an entry point for people into the game."

Mr Delgado is the brother of current professional Jamie Delgado, who has just played in his 21st successive Wimbledon. He runs Living in Tennis with Martin Lee, a former top 100 ATP player and world junior number one. They are going to be based all year round at Bobmore Lane.

Both Murray brothers have backed Mr Delgado's drive to get coaches into more schools to increase participation and Jamie recently attended the launch of another new club he has set up in Maidenhead.

Mr Delgado said: "I know Andy and Jamie Murray very well and we've got some support from some big names in British tennis. We're very lucky to have them and I see them very often.

"Andy is fully supportive of our vision at the moment to support strong links at schools."

Mr Delgado's younger brother Jonny is also Murray's former agent.

He believes Murray will be at the top of the men's game, along with defeated Djokovic for some time and added: "I've no doubt there's more to come from him."

Mr Delgado's own promising career was cruelly brought to an end, aged 16, by injury.

"I was unable to play the full ATP tour because I was out until I was 19," he said.

"But my passion now is to get kids on court."

On the project at Great Marlow, he said: "We are really excited about it, our aim is to let the community know we intend to run an all year round programme "It's all very new but what better way to get it out there with Andy winning Wimbledon.

"I hope people will now look at tennis being more than a 2 week a year sport."

It is hoped that floodlights will be installed by October but already mini tennis takes place indoors at the new multi-million pound school sports centre.

Outside, there are six courts, with two full size and six mini outdoor courts to be marked on the football pitch in September.

A summer coaching camp is taking place.
