A BAND who have only been performing together for five months took first prize at a Battle of the Bands.

Will Bailey, Matt Jackson Cook and Simon Page are all from Marlow and put together Introspect this year.

The 17-year-olds entered the Reading Rock Academy Battle of the Bands and were amazed when they took first place this month.

Will, who has only been playing bass guitar for seven months, said: "We didn't think we would win at all.

"The gig was in Reading and it was audience voting. We had the smallest crowd there as we live further away. "We were so surprised."

Through auditions with judges they made it through to the last ten bands and then went to the semi finals, where they made it through to the final four.

The audience voted Introspect the winners. They won free tickets for Reading Festival, a track recording at Outhouse Studios in Reading, and a year's worth of promotion from Reading Rock Academy.

Their inspirations are Biffy Clyro, Tubelord and Nirvana.

All three went to Great Marlow School. Will is currently studying at Henley College.

He said: "My parents want me to go into law at university- obviously because it is a bit safer than music.

"If we get any bigger then I guess I could do music part time."
